STOCKTON – An organ donor drive at San Joaquin Delta College has registered 462 potential donors, and the organizers – a brother and sister – were recognized Thursday for their efforts. Paul and Laura Amador know what it’s like to give and to receive.
Laura Amador, 27, was on the receiving end in June, when she got a kidney from an altruistic donor; Paul Amador, 24, simultaneously donated one of his own kidneys to a stranger.
Now they’ve founded the Dance for Donors club.
“When we tell people our story, their eyes just light up,” said Paul Amador, a Delta student. “It draws them in.”
Paul Amador said after Thursday’s ceremony that he wants more Delta students, staff and faculty to sign up. Delta already has registered more potential donors than any other college during the 2009 National Donation Campus Challenge, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
