SAN FRANCISCO “ Sister and brother Laura and Paul Amador of Stockton were reported doing well early Friday afternoon following their kidney surgeries Thursday at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.

Everything looks really good. Their kidneys seem to be working well, Diana Zographos said this afternoon. Zographos is the medical center’s kidney transplant coordinator.

Laura Amador received a kidney from a stranger, who had walked into the hospital hoping to donate a kidney to someone in need. Her brother had wanted to donate but was an unsuitable match. He donated anyway, and his kidney was transplanted into another unrelated patient, whose donor will later give a kidney to another patient in this kidney donor chain.

It’s the first such chain for the UCSF Medical Center.
